    Franca is Italian for free.

Correct spelling : Pistoia. But the stamp is difficult to read in the scan.

You can still take a train from Pistoia to Livorno, but it takes more than two hours for ca. 100 km. Not exactly high speed.

    Gruss,

    Jean Philippe

Free does not necessarily mean that it costs nothing, but especially on a letter that the postage has been paid by the sender. Before stamps were introduced, the addressee often had to pay the postage.

But maybe this cancellation is for a specialist to explain.

    Gruss,

This link tells you a lot about postal services by train in Tuscany in the 19th century.

Strade Ferrate Toscane.

Look on page 40 in this link, the stamp franca with the locomotive seems to be rather rare and expensive (500,- EUR):

    Hello, Jean Philippe, kartenhai

    thank you very much.

The train envelope, the seller is 300 euros.

My Chinese friend wants to buy it. His theme is "train", but he doesn't know the specific postal knowledge about this train mail, just the auction explanation: free train mail. . .

Indeed, to be a thematic exhibit, the author must study hard.

In China, we can't use Google, Facebook, and so on. . . With quite a bit of postal knowledge, there is no way to get them.

Fortunately, there is such a forum!

    Thank you again.
