    BZ.

    ü NN

    I think a better term for what you are looking for is abbreviations. In German Abkürzungen.

    Online I think you will find the link below very helpful for translating many philatelic terms and abbreviations from German - English.

    Thanks for the reply, I did view the site, but I still can't find things like ü NN as in ueber normalnul, or Kr for Kreis these I have seen on cancellations, I guess the easy way is to post a question and hope to get an answer.

    Hello Loftie,

    if your abbreviations are on stamp cancellations, please show us these cancellations, because sometimes some abbreviations have more significations.

    ü NN could be über Nachnahme = over cash on delivery
    Kr. could be Kreis, a greater region for a town
    BZ could be Bezirk, another region for a town

    Together with the whole stamp and cancellation it is more simplier to find the right signification.

    I think, there is no list in the internet for abbreviations on cancellations.

    For postal abbreviations, check the Michel Deutschland Spezial Katalog.
    There are also some listed here: . I would like to add that BZ also has a postal meaning "Britische Zone".
