Michel Band 3

    Over a year ago I bought Michel Band 3 Nord und Nordwesteuropa.
    2004/2005 for approx $100 Can and that's after a discount.
    Anyway when I got home I got one of the biggest disappointments ever.
    The catalogue does not list designers, engravers nor Printing Companies which was the main reason I wanted this catalogue in the first place since this aspect of philately is of great interest to me.
    Ok I realize the last Europa Michel I have is from 1968 but when did they stop listing this important info.
    Lo and behold when I checked in my latest Michel Deutschland 2005/2006 the designers are still there but no more engravers.
    Do they really believe people buy their catalogues for those ridiculous prices listed & the pretty picture.
    I for one will buy no more Michel

    I think for a very big number of collectors you can answer this question simply with "YES" ;)

    Especially in Germany the Michel is kind of a bible for anyone not specialized in more sophisticated collections. And I think the "Spezial" editions are really satisfactory for most of them.

    To be honest I never heard anyone complaining about missing Printing Companies or engravers an I only can assume that Michel found out that not enough people are interested in these facts, Perhaps they also wanted to save costs in saving printing space or even in gathering these informations.

    Well I guess I'm one of those crazy collectors who is interested in engravers & designers. What are they going to drop next....printing method?..... perforation?...just to safe space.

    not for every stamp the engraver and printing house is known. In addition, I believe very few philatelists are interested in these details. To add more details, the catalogue will be even more expensive and as you already indicated, the cost is already high.
    But, compared to other catalogues, Michel lists relatively many details and others catalgues are also costly. No one forces you to buy Michel and it is easy to complain.
    You may publish your one catalgues then you will realize how costly it will be.
    Such discussions exists on very many philatelic forums and I am tired of hearing them.

    "To add more details,". It isn't a question of adding anything but what the catalogue used to include.
    I know nobody is forcing me to buy it but one of reasons I prefered Michel over Scotts (for certain countries) was the very fact that it was more detailed which it no longer is.
