Well thanks for the answer but I quite don't understand when you say "the face of the soldier bore no resemblance to that of a soldier of the Nationalen Volksarmee."
Do you mean he doesn't look German? Maybe he looks Russian? I don't have the stamp and the pic in Michel isn't clear but the face looks dark.
Guess I better acquire the stamp & see for myself. -
Ich lese auf dem Stempel "KAPOSVAR" (Stadt in Ungarn) und 3 ueber 9.

Hi there
I just have a couple of question which the learned members of this forum might answer?
How much were the DDR "Speerwerte" sold for and were they only sold to foreign collectors?
DDR Michel # 662. Why was this stamp withdrawn on the same day it was issued?
Thanks all in advance.

My grandfather would have been able to also read the Czech version since he was born in Znaim and was fluent in Czech but could also speak Polish, Russian and even Italian which he picked up while he was a POW in Genoa during WWI.
How did you discover out that Erich Preukschat died on 09.03.1945 at Delmenhorst ?

Very interesting Happybaba, thank you

Just going through some boxes found this old catalog which my grandfather gave me years ago.
What I found interesting is that the publisher was " z. Zt. bei der Wehrmacht "
I wonder if he survived the war and if he did, did he return to Czechoslovakia? Unlikely I would guess.
Anyway this is both philately and history and for me this is what makes stamp collecting the best hobby in the world.[Blockierte Grafik: http://i413.photobucket.com/albums/pp214/lithograving/1944Katalog005.jpg]

One more thing; it isn't just German politicians who are stupid as you say. We have plenty of stupid, useless, good for nothing politicians here in Canada too and they are getting worse which leaves me with only one choice...I probably won't vote in the next general election because they make me sick.

Funny you should mention model airplanes. One of the models I remember from the late fifties was I believe a Messerschmitt Bf109 and of course it came with the swastika decals and as a matter of fact the models were made in Germany.
I remember we received so many German exports here then and boy the stuff was good quality and cheap, especially since $1 Can was worth 4 DM. -
Well all I can say is "Poor Germany" you have a heavy cross to bear. In a free society the government has no right to dictate to the people what to think, what a person is allowed to speak, what political leanings one may have, etc, etc. It appears to me that the new post reunification Germany has inherited some of the traits of the DDR, strange eh?
Apparently since Austria has very similar laws, I am glad now that my parents emigrated from there in 1956, I neither want nor could live under those rules.
Thank God Canada doesn't have these ridiculous laws yet even though certain things are better left unsaid in public unless you want to loose your job or reputation. -
A poster on another thread showed a letter with Michel # 662 and 663 to which he added : ( Die Darstellung Nationalsozialistischer Symbole meinerseits sind ausschlieslich zu kulturhistorischen Zwecken anzusehen und dürfen nicht zu Propagandazwecken mißbraucht werden!!)
Is this mandatory in Germany when showing NS symbols? I have noticed on some other sites where the sellers of NS era postcards obliterated every swastika with white or red circles. One card must have had a lot of these evil things since there where so many white (or was it red?) blobs it was hard to tell what the card was all about.
I hope this question is allowed by the moderator since I'm starting to wonder what is acceptable here.
Please moderator this is not a criticism of you. It is your site. -

Hi 22028
"To add more details,". It isn't a question of adding anything but what the catalogue used to include.
I know nobody is forcing me to buy it but one of reasons I prefered Michel over Scotts (for certain countries) was the very fact that it was more detailed which it no longer is. -
Well I guess I'm one of those crazy collectors who is interested in engravers & designers. What are they going to drop next....printing method?..... perforation?...just to safe space.

Hi BR
Thanks for your comments. You must be either going to sleep late or getting up very early. Here in Toronto Canada its only 11:20 pm.
Yes the Scots are an interesting folk, I have met a few of them and I love their dry sense of humour. Too bad my wife who is part Scottish has none... sense of humour that is.
