    Hi all,

do you know where I can find a sheet with postal rates of your country?
I need to know the postal rate of a simple letter from Germany to Italy shipped on 23 May 1946.

Thank you in advance for any help, my best regards.
    Marco

    Hello Marco,
if it is from the British-American Zone a simple letter (up to 20 g) should have costed 25 Pfennig. Every additional 20 g costed 15 Pfennig. The Michel Special Catalogue says something else, but in this case I trust the "Porto Fibel Deutschland" more.
    Greetings,
    Christoph

    Hallo Marco

Could you please place a scan of the item in question that we may see it.

Mail abroad after May 1945 was generally not permitted until 1.4.46. The rate then was 75Pfg. This was reduced on the 15.9.47 to 50Pfg.

Up to May 1945 the rate was 25Pfg. These rates are all for standard letters of the first weight stage up to 20g.

    regards

    Nigel

    Hello Nigel,
I attach a scan of the source on which my posting grounded. Are you sure that the given information is wrong?
    Greetings,
    Christoph

I would suggest there is a printing error there with dates.

Not only does the Michel Gebührenkatalog give the rates mentioned, I also have covers at the rates stated.

And as a member of the Arge Ampost am quite au fait with the rates.

    regards

    Nigel

    Hi all,
i am another Marco from Italy,
the question of my friend Occio is for one of my letters, shipped in Italy from Germany and taxed because underfranked.
i would know the exactly rate, to control the correct tax applied in Italy.
thank you very much for your help and...... sorry for my english!!

This letter should have been 50Pfg, so it is some 26Pfg underpaid.

The 50pfg rate for letters abroad (20g) was in force from 15.9.47 until 31.8.48. each further 20g or part thereof cost an additional 30Pfg.

There are though a few things that give rise to concern in respect of this letter.

Firstly the address appears to be incomplete, unless the reference to Post Milani means it could be collected at the post office. Presumably the main post office as clearly Milano has many.

It has circumvented the Allied Censorship, although to be fair so did many other items of mail.

Italy used Postage dues 'Segnetasse', why have these not been affixed, or was there a shortage of these, or had the regulations changed.

On the reverse; Can any senders details be seen?

    kind regards

    Nigel

At this point in time the rate for a letter to Italy will have been 75Pfg, with each additional 20grammes costing a further 45Pfg. This rate was in force from 1.4.46 until 14.9.47.

The Postage dues affixed to the reverse* appear not to have been cancelled. Would I be wrong in assuming these are cheap stamps???

    There are no sender's details.

With hindsight it would appear this letter is a fabrication. Certainly the indications so far given are not indicative of anything else.

However I shall defer judgement until others have offered their opinion.

Please in English refer to the back as,' on the back', or 'on the reverse',
It is biologically impossible for a letter to have an arse, which is what you have inadvertently referred to. Small point of English, but take it on board as it may save future social embarassment.

    kind regards

    Nigel

    :ups: :ups: :ups:
I wrote "sorry for my english" :ups: :ups:

ok, for the postage due, in Italy was possible (when postage due are finished) to use normal stamps with a big "T" on surchage.
for this letter, there are "T" and "3" (liras) in front and it's a standard postal metod. Also standard metod affixing postage due on the reverse, but also with guller with the arrival date (ex. Milano 28.05.46).
    ....... thank you
