Doubts with 1921 Ciphers

    Hi to everyone. Finally I got my 2006 Michel specialized and I started to organize my chaos........

    I started with this serie and my first question is....several values has been printed in 2 different printing machines ( Bogen ) and Rollen. However catalogue does not mention any difference so we can recognize them ( without having sheet borders). I took a look into my stcok and find out several differences between stamps, but not sure if they are differences between one and the other method.

    If anyone have more information and colud tell me if this differences are because of different methods or they are simply different positions in a same plate.........

    Whilst the process of production for sheets and coils using typography could result in subtle differences, and this has long been recognised, due to numbers produced, by plate or cylinder, there is negligible difference in surviving quantities to command a price differentiation.

    Likewise with the stamps having listed shades, these are readily discernible, though many deceive themselves with the 10Pfg dark (black) green.

    The only way to ascertain which belongs to which would be to acquire sheets of these stamps, (generally available and largely not expensive) and study them yourself.

    I am unaware of any specialised literature on this series with the exception of the 20Mk.

    Be advised as well, the the surcharged stamps of this series Mi 258,9,60 are more often found with fraudulent or forged cancellation than with genuine comtemporary cancellations.

    Thanks so much for your response and the welcome.....If language is not a problem I will try to colaborate with postings in this forum with questions and some material I have.

    Even there are no differences in price I considered interesting to have both of them distinguished and include them separately in my collection.

    Welcome to the Forum zeus25971.
    There is a huge difference in prices between used Ciphers with different watermarks. Watermark 1 (Rauten) is mostly cheap, Watermark 2 (Waffeln) is mostly expensive. The black green variety of the 10Pf Watermark 1 is also quite expensive.
    As doctorstamp wrote, there are a lot of forged cancellations of the expensive stamps, because all stamps are cheap without cancellation.
