    Sweden - Bavaria unpaid.

Stockholm 12.4.1858 "via Denmark" to Nürnberg 19.4.1858.

5 Sgr. (= 18 Kreuzer) for Sweden (including transit of Denmark 2 1/2 Sgr.) and 9 Kr. for Thurn and Taxis (Hamburg). Bavaria got nothing.
Usually used in wintertime, when the ocean was frozen.

    To be continued.

    Norway - Bavaria unpaid. Contract period 1.7.1858 - 30.4.1865.

    Sandösund, 13.7.1858 - Denmark - Hamburg (Taxis) - Nürnberg, 17.7.1858 .

6 Sgr. = 21 Kreuzer from Sandösund to Hamburg for Norway, including the seatransit. Hamburg got 9 Kr. to Nürnberg - alltogether 30 Kreuzer. Bavaria, as usual, nothing.

    Nothing follows.

I hope, you like these few letters to Bavaria.

If you like to see correspondance Bavaria - Denmark et vice versa, just let me know.

    Kind regards from bayern klassisch

    Hello Pixie

I am glad that you enjoyed my old letters. As you mentioned they are all very scarce and I would never give one of them away.

May be others can show their pretious postal gems from Scandinavia too.

    Yours

    Bayern K!
Oh yes, I will return to your images again..
I once started on an album with some of my finnish material, but I have not kept it alive.
I am going to revise it and add a little though.
You may have a peek at it as it is now.

    :)

    Hello Pixie

I have looked at all your letters and postal items. A very good collection with one letter to Nürnberg, quite similar to mine.

There are 2 Germans living in the north who have first class collections of Finland too. Always a pleasure to see.

Thank you for showing - postal history at its best.

    Yours sincerely

Thank you for your kind words, Bayern K.!
If this is your very special interest, I can give you a hint if I see anything similar from the other scandinavian countries; provided it is not finnish - I collect only Finland.

    All the best,
    Pixie

    Hello Pixie

Thank you for your offer - all specials from, through and to Bavaria are interesting for me.

If you see printed matters, postage dues or postcards used until 1875 from where so ever, please send me a PN.

How much did you pay for your lovely letter to Hopf in Nürnberg and where did you purchase it?

Unfortunately I can´t give any of my letters to you, as they are very scarce.
If I get a letter, very similar to one of mines, I will give you a call.

    Kind regards from bayern klassisch

I will remember what you told me, and do my best.
Even though I envy you some of your items, I would never dream to ask to buy or swap.
They are yours and I am pleased for you.
I will not tell price and place in public, but send you a short PN with a link.
    Regards
    Pixie

    Interesting discussion...
Remind me when i asked myself the same question.
Considering letters sent abroad, i've a little bit overtaken the distinction between prephilatelic, stampless and stamp-franked letters considering them all pre-UPU letters.
There are distinctive characteristics about pre UPU letters which go over the simply presence of stamps or not. In particular, three of them:
    - Postal rates. This is the black best. Postal rates are difficult to interpretate. Missing a universal regulamentation, generally accepted by all countries involved, postal rates are based on treaties stipulated by a country with each others. These involve the postal system by the sender and the recipient country and the transiting countries.
    - Transit postmark. Transit postmarks are much more fashinating and pittoresque then the modern one.
    - Routes. Letter sent by postal coaches, by train, in which other way? following which route? avoiding which country?

My letters can't compare the ones shown. I've just this one from Stettin to Norway, 1868...

    Hello Ameis33,

Thank you for sharing this object and your thoughts with us!
I think your solution is very smart.
There are thus two institutional changes, the introduction of the stamp (or even before that of the pre-paid envelope and card) and the creation of UPU. Both of impressive magnitude.
Your three points, including the political dimensions and the developments in communications capture very well the problems and charms of studying this period from a postal historical point. I hope that will inspire others as well.
    :)
    All the best

    Pixie
